As of 8am today (ok, a little bit earlier), I finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Spoilers in the following cut, so don't respond unless you don't give a damn or already read it.
It turns out that internet rumor that Snape (SURPRISE, the HBP) kills Dumbledore, revealed on page 606 is true. Well what do you know.
I liked this one. Good interpretation on predestination and the clockwork world. The ending was conclusive--although it gave a quest and outline for the final book, I would still be perfectly happy if there was no seventh book, because all loose ends that needed to be wrapped up were wrapped up. Most mysteries (with the exception of the newly added RAB mystery) have been cleared up. And I agree with Harry--who cares about RAB.
The revelation that Harry was right all these years really puts the other books in a different perspective. While it served its purpose, I'm going to miss Harry's dogged determination to blame Snape for the yearly problems when he's really just misunderstood. Before, it was just like that Red Herring guy from "A Pup Named Scooby Doo". Now it turns out he WAS evil. Then again, didn't Red Herring really do it once, too?
(Note to self--Snape still might not be evil. His final conversation with Dumbledore was suspicious, especially when paired with the long drawn out scenes on antidotes...it MIGHT have been a mercy killing.)
All those shippers and fanfic writers must be going crazy--from what I've read, they nailed every pairing. Bill/Fleur, Harry/Ginny (finally!), Ron/Hermoine, and even Lupin/Tonks.
Picking up the book was a who's who of the area for me--I ran into quite a few parents from the pool, one of my lessons, and a smattering of friends. Heck, I even ran into the Mayor. There was dancing to watch (which just got me thinking about Maglalatik choreography) and costumes to gawk at. Oh, and apparently I've finally lost my coffee tolerance. One large coffee from Starbucks still has me going.
Oh yeah. And I got Disgaea yesterday, the greatest RPG of all time.
